Clambake, DesignxRI
A short autobiographical talk about a career built on crossed-out plans.
Starting from art school and a list of things she was definitely going to be — photographer, musician's designer, branding designer, packaging designer, toy designer — Marissa traces the zigzag path that landed her doing UX strategy for state governments serving millions of people.
The talk is honest about the identity confusion that comes with a hybrid, hard-to-name role, and makes the case that every 'wrong turn' actuallyworked out.
