From Squiggles to Straight Lines: Sketching during strategy and UX work
Sketching is a first-class tool at every stage of a web project.
I make this claim not just for designers, but for content strategists, project managers, and anyone trying to get a team aligned. The argument is practical: sketches are fast, cheap, and disposable in a way that polished comps never can be. That disposability is the point. Low-fidelity artifacts encourage exploration, make it easier to kill ideas early, and get stakeholder feedback before anyone has emotionally invested in a Figma file.
Sketches also surface hidden disagreements — when everyone draws what they think was agreed upon, you find out fast who was picturing something different. A three-day San Francisco workshop covering every wall in marker serves as the proof of concept.
